2019-2020 Planning & Kickoff

The AAGG Executive Committee held a day long session to finalize the details for 2019-2020 year. The September 10 General Membership meeting will cover the highlights, but the Tentative Programming Calendar looks great! We kick off with a presentation by Michael Ganges on the Ganges Family History Project (http://thegangesfamilies.com). During the summer of 1800, the naval ship USS Ganges captured two illegal U.S. slave ships, schooners Phebe and Prudent, off the coast of Cuba. The ships were considered prizes. They were brought to the Port of Philadelphia because of the city's strong anti-slavery sentiments. Those freed assumed the surname of Ganges, which was passed down to their descendants. the General Membership meetings will be held same time, same place as last year, 6-8pm at Pinn Memorial Baptist Church.

A highlight of the year will be the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the African American Genealogy Group! It will be held on November 2 from 1-5 pm at the McCall Golf & Country Club, 201 North Lynn Boulevard, Upper Darby, PA 19082. Tickets are $55 and can be purchased through Eventbrite https://g.co/kgs/EDopAm. The keynote speaker will be author Melvin Collier (https://familytreewebinars/michaelcollier), who will present on the topic "Preserving Our Past and Building Our Future Through Genealogy".

Our first States Group Meeting for members will be on September 7 at our same location, the Bala Cynwyd Library from 10-2. Be sure to send you brick wall questions and other queries to Bob Scott at rj2618@yahoo.com

See you soon!
